This looks to me like a very unusual chocolate-candy, but I cannot ignore the tool markings in the wood grain and accept that it depicts a sculptural object.

A little research informs me that Fu Zhongwang is/was a great artist, with examples of his work in galleries across the world.

Is this structure also a puzzle, where one has to remove each tenon from each mortice in a sequence, in order to completely deconstruct the object?

You also may have noticed that the word 'mortice' has its origin in the Latin word for death.
